ABU DHABI: The foreign minister of the UAE met the secretary-general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, the Emirates News Agency reported.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Hussein Al-Sheikh discussed international efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and the humanitarian crisis in the region in the wake of Israel’s conflict with Hamas in the enclave.

The UAE minister stressed the importance of prioritizing negotiations toward a framework for a two-state peace deal between the Israelis and Palestinians, the report added.

The UAE has condemned the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, in which 1,200 people were killed, and has called on the militant group to release hostages held in Gaza.

It has also condemned Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and used its non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council to push for a ceasefire in the conflict.
