Canadian singer The Weeknd released a new music video July 22 for his latest single ‘Snowchild,’ tapping into black-owned anime studio D’Art Shtajio to animate the music video amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The animated video plays off of the lyrics of ‘Snowchild,’ which is part of his ‘After Hours’ album.

The music video shows the different phases of The Weeknd’s entertainment career, giving fans a look at his House of Balloons era, the moment of Kiss Land and Beauty Behind the Madness and moving into his Starboy phase.

The only black-owned anime studio in Japan made sure the animated video represented the singer’s struggles, which led to his current reimagined persona.
